Restaurant Chillax offers a genuine taste of Japan tucked right in Montreal’s Park Avenue neighborhood. As an authentic Japanese restaurant, it strikes a balance between a cozy, relaxed setting and thoughtful, carefully prepared dishes that echo traditional flavors without feeling formal or intimidating.

The interior feels like stepping into a quietly curated Japanese space, with subtle memorabilia and decor that invite you to linger comfortably. This is a place to settle in for lunch or dinner when you want food that’s both familiar and crafted with attention—no flashy frills, just good meals and a welcoming atmosphere.

Chillax’s menu covers a satisfying range of Japanese staples. Highlights include the Teriyaki Salmon Donburi and Gyūdon, which offer hearty bowls with a rich, comforting depth, as well as more playful starters like Takoyaki and Agedashi Tofu. If you enjoy noodles, the ramen with spicy miso broth and soft boiled egg is a solid choice, while the seafood udon brings a touch of ocean freshness. The kitchen pays attention to portion sizes that hit the mark for a lunch or casual dinner without leaving you scrambling for more afterward.

Visitors appreciate the warm interaction with staff, who deliver service that feels personal yet unobtrusive. The atmosphere supports casual meetups, whether you’re coming solo for a steaming bowl of ramen or gathering with friends to share a variety of dishes. Time your visit for lunchtime or early evening to enjoy a relaxed vibe before the weekday rush.

For a subtle sweet finish, the cheesecake with sesame provides an interesting twist, paired nicely with drinks like the Iced Green Tea or a uniquely Japanese ramune soda, which adds a playful, nostalgic touch to the meal.

Overall, Restaurant Chillax suits those who seek a quiet spot with authentic flavors away from louder, more bustling dining scenes. It works well for locals craving reliable Japanese food made with respect to tradition, as well as visitors wanting a genuine, understated experience in Montreal.

A very quaint and authentic Japanese restaurant which is a hidden gem in Montreal. We have tried many Japanese restaurants in Singapore, Malaysia, US, UK, Canada and of course Japan and this restaurant is right up there with some of the best we ever tried. The owner is so warm and friendly and the decor is immaculate, bespoke and so we'll thought of. The food is amazing, fresh and portion sizes are very good. We really enjoyed our dinner and will surely return when we are next in Montreal.

I would simply go again! We felt truly welcome. Nice and friendly service and all we ordered was delicious! Tasty ramen and perfectly cooked egg. Tempura was simply wow! Cheesecake perfect but the matcha ice cream was just average.

Authentic Japanese restaurant near the city center. Great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. This restaurant deserves to be known. We did try various dishes and were not disappointed. We had Edamame, Gyoza and Karaage as starters, then Oyakodon and chicken Teppanyaki as main. It was clearly sufficient for 2 people. The kitkat dessert looked also very yummy but did not have it in the end.

From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. The atmosphere truly lives up to the name — super relaxed, cozy, and inviting. I had the Chillax Burger with fries and it was absolutely delicious — juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly. The service was attentive and friendly, and the staff made us feel right at home without being overbearing. The drink menu was also a nice surprise — great options and well made. Whether you’re out for a casual dinner or catching up with friends, Chillax is a solid go-to. Great food, chill atmosphere, and consistent quality. Can’t wait to come back!

Tried the chicken ramen — tasty and comforting, not flashy but well-made. The broth had a nice depth and the chicken was tender. The vibe is a big part of the experience: the place is cozy and lined with iconic anime posters and Studio Ghibli poster s — Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, which gives the space a fun, nostalgic energy. Pleasant spot for a relaxed meal.
